Race the Park Challenge

2 dates and locations, up to 15 teams of 4-6 kids, one unique event!

Out of a desire to create a new program specifically for the oft-overlooked middle school age group, and with the support of the Legacy Foundation, Lake County Parks is excited to bring you Race the Park Challenge!

What is Race the Park Challenge? A new event just for middle school aged kids, Race the Park Challenge (RTPC) is a team competition around a park. Kids sign up as a group of 4-6, and will go through a series of activities, competing and racing against other teams.

When and where is it? Two dates are currently set. Friday, May 3rd at Lemon Lake in Crown Point, and Friday, May 10 at Oak Ridge Prairie in Griffith. Both events will take place from 5-8:30  PM.

What kind of activities will take place? There is an element of surprise to each activity, so we won't go into too much detail. In general though, activities will put teams into fun, unique, situations that will require them to work together and problem solve their way through. All activities will take place outside, and while athleticism is not at all required, participants should be able to engage in physical activity around the park (walking, jumping, hiking, etc.).

How much does it cost, and how do I sign up? The Challenge is for middle school aged kids (grades 6-8, or around 12-14 years old), and costs $10 per child. Before you sign up your child they need to have a team of 3-5 friends (making for a team of 4-6 kids total) who will also be signing up. Once they know who they want on their team give the Lake County Parks main business office a call at 219-769-7275. Registration officially opens March 6th and will stay open until all spots are full.

A full FAQ will be posted shortly, in the meantime any additional questions can be directed to info@lakecountyparks.com, or give us a call at 219-769-7275!
