    More than 300 species of native plants are found at Gibson Woods, including a variety of rare and unique species. Join a park naturalist for a walk through the preserve to learn more about our native flora. Comfortable shoes and insect repellent are recommended. For all ages!   2. Bugs, Sunset and S'mores

    Explore the prairie searching for some of the smaller residents of the park. Bug nets will be provided. Hike to the top of the sledding hill to see the sunset. Afterwards, you can roast marshmallows or make you own s’mores and see the full moon rising. Pre-registration required; please call 219-844-3188.     The 5 Miler run at Buckley Homestead is back again. Runners start off running on Belshaw road and will eventually running throughout the pioneer farm itself.     It's a game of hide and seek with painted rocks. Paint your very own rock to hide (or keep). Next take a hike throughout the park to look for painted rocks. Then finish the day with a rock candy treat. Welcome to all ages. Hike is parent led! Designed for ages 5-10. Cost $4 per person. Registration is required by calling the park at 219-947-1958. Space is limited.

    Calling all you flappers, cool cats, dolls, and gents-- It's the 1920's down at Buckley Homestead and we've got an evening of music, games, dancing, and fun in store. Giggle Juice (that's beer and wine for your 2020's folks) will be provided by St. John Malt Brothers and Carpenter Creek Cellar Winery Musical stylings provided by our friend JD Kostyk Cheese boards, walking tacos, and cheesecake will be available for sale to fill you up and keep you doing the fox-trot all night long!
